#bbclaurak summarises #Badenoch's policies "whether its send more people to prison; or accusing some people of cheating the benefit system; or introducing tougher rules for younger people on benefits; some of it sounds quite 1980s Some of the people in your party might be worried that it could be the return of what Theresa May called the nasty party. What do say to that?
KB "It's the common sense party. Frankly, if we were doing so well the old way why did have such a terrible defeat in 2024? I am a classic old school Conservative"
She is wholly blind as to why the Conservative Party did and still do badly.
These are my thoughts.
The Conservative Party's record defeat in the July 2024 general election was driven by several key factors:
First, public fatigue set in after 14 years of Conservative rule, fueling widespread appetite for political change.
Second, high-profile scandals, such as "Partygate" under Boris Johnson and the economic turbulence caused by Liz Truss’s mini-budget, severely damaged the party's reputation for economic competence, honesty, and stability.
Additionally, internal divisions and constant leadership changes caused public distrust, while voters grew increasingly frustrated with struggling public services, the rising cost of living, and high immigration numbers.
Finally, the Conservatives faced severe vote splitting, losing voters to both the Labour Party and Reform UK on the right.
